Get a third-party DNS service that offers Dynamic DNS and redundant servers in different geo locations.

This is the best thing I ever did, and it cost practically nothing. When our datacenter was cut off, we were able to switch to backup servers in a different location in minutes.

We use Nettica, but there are many.

Good luck with the venture. Service looks great!

Re: Ping.fm / Blog / The Woes of Uncontrollable Downtime

Thanks Adam & Sean. It's great to see your open and honest discussion about the downtime. As you can imagine many of us were rather traumatized after coming to rely on your wonderful app. I was a bit harsh on GoDaddy in my blog report on this, so I'll put a note linking to your blog post.

Re: Ping.fm / Blog / The Woes of Uncontrollable Downtime

Glad to see everything is back up. I only joined the site yesterday after I found out about it from Charles Heflin who is BIG in social media circles and then today when I couldn't find it I thought...what the heck is going on, did I type the name in wrong, why wasn't an announcement made. I appreciate your transparency about all this, it's better to be straight with people and tell them like it is.

John O'Hara
United Kingdom

Re: Ping.fm / Blog / The Woes of Uncontrollable Downtime

For a while, I thought Ping.fm had gone Titsup.com.

I felt like a dog with a toy — it's not until it's gone when you really want to play with it...

Re: Ping.fm / Blog / The Woes of Uncontrollable Downtime

I am really, really happy because of this!
