Congrats to Ping & King of Ping! Puuuuuuuuuuuuuure sweetness!

Desktop client! I love Ping.fm but you need a desktop client.
  • jyoseph · 1 year ago
All of this calling for a desktop client is silly. This is the web and it's 2008.

All of which explains the popularity of Twitterific, Tweetdesk, Twhirl......Having a multitude of tabs open doesn't thrill me. Besides I use gmail, greader, google docs.
  • jyoseph · 1 year ago
Did you click the link? Several options in there that don't involve having another tab open. I'm not disputing the value in a desktop app. But the chatter I hear is that it's not a complete service until it has a desktop app is ludicrous. For 2 reasons:

    1. Posting to ping via many different IM clients, mobile phone, terminal, dashboard widget, api, air app, email, voice, firefox plugin, ubiquity, IRC, and more isn't enough; we NEED to have an official desktop client is just strange logic.
    2. This point makes #1 moot, because ping has a desktop client, as noted in the link I posted above ^.
  • ppidgeon · 1 year ago
Yes. Thank you. I found what I was looking for. I not saying a desktop client will make it a better service. That I agree with you on. But I see extensions, plug-ins and desktop clients as tools. Ping.fm is a tool. The more tools I have at my disposal to use the more I can do. I'd use Ping regardless. It's a great tool. Now I can do even more with it.
  • jyoseph · 1 year ago
I'd agree with you on those points :-)

Have you used socialthing at all? It requires having a tab open but i've found that between posting to ping and pulling from nearly every social network it makes a pretty good complete tool.
  • ppidgeon · 1 year ago
Social Thing is s what I downloaded. I like a lot of the Adobe Air apps. I like Social Thing flexibility. I like apps that provide me with options. That's why I like Ping, I have options.

I noticed a Media link. Are we going to be able to upload photos, videos, mp3's soon?
  • pingfm · 1 year ago
You can upload photos via e-mail. Video is in the works, and mp3's would land us in court.

I love ping. It usually works great. Lately, post have been being delayed around three days. Just letting you know.

My only problem is when using spinvox to send a update to twitter, the tweet gets cut off because the message is to long and the link to the audio for the spin vox update. For an example go to www.twitter.com/colide81 and look for the spin vox update. It doesn't fit the 140 limit on words. However I still think this is very very cool! ;-))

How long can I talk for in one call?
  • nonpromqueen · 1 year ago
Nice work! i think I talk funny because it turned ping into pen and pin!

    ;)

Anyone using SpinVox in the USA? if so, can you give me some feedback. Thank you.
  • Allan · 1 year ago
Sounds like a great service! Does SpinVox have direct competitors? I swear I've seen something exactly like it.

The phone number gives me either a busy signal or an error when I dial it. What's up I wonder?
  • electrokinetica · 1 year ago
    At last! Voice tweeting/microblogging/status updates/whatever...
I was using Jott for updating Twitter up until I got on to Ping.fm. I tried using one for the other with no success. Now that they are out of beta, they changed more to a voice-based organization tool than for blogging.
This looks much better and have the option for leaving out the audio link.
I have not TRIED it simply because it uses a T. number in Canada. I may look at getting an LD package just because.
All in all, a much better set up for what I need. I look forward to using it.

You may also want to check out Utterli ...

Ya know, its odd that you say that.
I was looking for a mobile service to connect me in to Flickr after nakama.ca came crashing down out of the blue. I signed up for it when it was utterz. I still get email from them, so they never left my memory. I don't recall all these multimedia things, but it looks well featured.
  • electrokinetica · 1 year ago
I have gotten around to trying it. I had all the intent of getting some LD minutes on my plan anyways. Calling podcast voice mail lines in the states kinda adds up. At first I waited too long, I was still expecting Jott-like requests. It got recording right away. I hung around expecting it to stop sooner but it hangs for a good 10 seconds or so. The transfer is good and it ignores voice ticks quite well. No odd words it couldn't get to yet, but it is a very nice transfer. I also like the ability to just use my Ping account and not create another account for them. +++++ will do business again.

It is working now, maybe it was just busy or overwhelmed before. I definitely would like there to be a place on my profile for these notes to go if they get retained for any length of time, just like our photo albums. And please, can you put the optional links at the end of the message instead of the beginning and remove the quotes? Every character counts. :)

  • James aka colide81 · 1 year ago
I agree a blackberry app would be cool, but they do have the mobile website already.

I've been using Ping for about a week and I've got to tell you it's absolutely fantastic! I've had more people reach out to me since I've started Pinging than ever before. I hadn't been on some of my social networking sites in a month, so this is great! I would like a desktop client, but I will check out Social Thing.
